Summoned and Unwanted

Chapter 422

“Thank you, Lord Vincent. You don’t know how you saved my wife’s life because of her, ahem... personality.” Hop said. He averted his gaze and continued, a bit embarrassed, “My situation might sound like a simple problem compared to Phil and James’s situation. My wife and I work overtime to pay the loan we took for this house because it was built with better material than smoked dampwood.”

“Now that my wife can’t work and the cost of the medical expenses appeared all of a sudden, we... we barely in the evening. Today is our anniversary, and we usually celebrate it with a feast, but one small chicken is a luxury to us now. ” Hop explained their situation.

Hop looked at Vincent as if he was his savior. He lowered to one knee and continued, “My wife might have gotten hurt or worse if I didn’t invite my lord to this humble house. I, Hop, thank Lord Vincent Lionheart with all my soul. I, Hop, vow to be loyal to Vincent Lionheart and assist when I am needed. I, Hop, also vowed not to betray Vincent Lionheart in this life.”

.

[Notice]

[Hop has been accepted to the Loyal Servant System with a loyalty standing of Slightly Cautious.]

.

Even though Hop didn’t offer Vincent to be his sword, the system accepted Hop’s intent to serve Vincent. Additionally, Hop’s standing was also Slightly Cautious. It appeared this was the sweet spot to have trustworthy people on Vincent’s side.

.....

The last remaining person needing help was vice captain Ganni. His house was a few roads away, yet he was tapping with his toe and acting a little impatient while patiently looking for the bedroom door to open.

The door opened a couple of minutes later. Hop’s wife had her ankle wrapped with a white bandage stained slightly green from the herbs.

Previously, the woman had her arm bandaged. The broken arm didn’t have treatment given to it as if it could heal perfectly on its own. Now, the arm had two sticks wrapped with a bandage and a long piece of cloth around her neck and arm to hold it raised.

Vincent noticed Iris and Lilith looked unhappy. It was strange since the woman didn’t look any different than before. Vincent, Kazumi, Hop, and Ganni became curious to know.

“Honey. Are you feeling better now?” Hop asked.

“Yes, in a few more months, hehe.” She replied cheerfully. “These two pretty gals offered to provide medicine every Sunday.”

“Ahem... Honey, even if the lady in the maid outfit is a hobgoblin, I heard she is the wife of the man I swore loyalty to. Please mind your manners before we get into trouble.” Hop was about to sweat bullets because of his carefree wife.

“Iris. Lilith. Can you tell me why there is a frown on your face?” Vincent changed the subject before it became a situation where Hop and his wife ask for forgiveness.

“I read from books how an untreated broken arm can heal badly. I used a lot of my mana to help her arm recover a little bit quicker, but.” Lilith explained. She paused and looked at Iris.

“I... I think the arm will not thoroughly heal as it was before.” Iris continued.

“Don’t worry, gals. I don’t use my left arm that often.” Hop’s wife said to reassure Iris and Lilith.

Kazumi had a brilliant idea of what doctors sometimes do to patients. Not every damage can be harmful. Breaking her arm again and letting it heal properly would be the best outcome. There is advanced technology on Earth, while in this world, there is magic.

“Lilith, you can heal her one day. After you learn Minor Heal, I can tell you of a method to allow the arm to recover without future complications.” Vincent said.

“Great.” Hop’s wife said. She looked at Vincent with a smile and continued, “Hot man with two gals, wanna stay for a...”

*Cough* “Lord Vincent Lionheart needs to visit my vice captain’s family next. ” Hop interrupted. He went beside his wife and bowed. “Thank you, my lord and ladies. We will pay this good deed with loyalty.”

Vincent turned to Ganni and told him to lead the way. The four left the house and saw people looking at them. The news of nobles with the lion’s head insignia, but green instead of golden, were visiting commoners. Presumably, to sponsor families.

Ganni glared at the people with the idea of delaying Vincent from helping. His hand rested on the sword’s hilt, and his head frequently moved sideways to shoo the people away.

Vincent felt reassured by Ganni’s actions.

Ganni gave the impression of being a man that didn’t have selfless compassion. He was determined to do it if he had a goal, giving anyone protected by him a sense of dependability.

The attention became split between Ganni and the three Lionhearts.

Lilith felt nervous, but by holding Iris’s hand and watching the people move after Ganni glared at them, she felt slightly reassured that Vincent and Iris weren’t the only people she could depend on.

Ganni stopped in front of a door about fifteen minutes later. “Honey, I am home.” However, there was no response.

A frown appeared on his face when his wife didn’t reply.

Ganni had told her to remain home today while he tried to ask a noble who helped one of the soldiers under him.

“Did it happen again?” Ganni urgently rushed inside.

Vincent told Iris to close the door behind her and follow Ganni. After going upstairs, Vincent became shocked to see Ganni trying to help his daughter while his wife was on the floor.

Iris and Lilith froze when they saw this scene. A little child with pale skin and covered with a painful-looking rash had trouble breathing. Anyone looking at her would think the little girl was about to die.

“Fuck!” Vincent cussed. He looked at Iris and Lilith and continued, “The little girl suffers from Severe Wheat Allergy while the mother only fainted.”

[Vincent, do we make her a retainer and save her life?]

“Not now. I want her to decide her own life.” Vincent hard-headedly answered.

“Wheat Allergy?” Ganni was at a loss of words.

Vincent held Alice’s hand and cast Minor Heal. As the green healing light enveloped her body, everyone could hear her breathing return. The light soon faded, and Vincent rechecked her condition promptly.

Vincent decided twenty Soul Power was nothing compared to saving the little girl’s life without branding her with the retainer mark. The decision was quickly and unhesitantly made, and another layer of green healing light encased little Alice’s body.

.

The color of Alice’s face returned, and a little rash on her skin remained. Her breathing returned to normal as well. Alice was now only suffering from minor allergy reactions.

[Forty Soul Power remains now. But I feel that you chose the right option.]

Kazumi suffered from the inability to decide. She began to think of multiple solutions while the simplest solution was enough.

Sometimes the more options one can choose from, the more confused and uneasy they can get.

“Alice, you look better now. ” Ganni said on the verge of tears. In his eyes, Vincent was a miracle worker as fate brought him to his sickly daughter before it was too late.

After placing the mother and daughter beside each other on the bed, Iris and Lilith remained in the bedroom while Vincent and Ganni went downstairs to the kitchen.

Iris and Lilith chatted about how Vincent brought good change wherever he went. His power is unheard of as his kindness brings forth miracles.

Healers take decades to awaken the Minor Heal spell and years for Healers sponsored by nobles, yet Vincent learned it as his first spell.

Lilith used Divine Blessing and the last of her mana to bless Alice with regeneration while Iris crushed a few seeds with pain-relieving effects.

Downstairs, Vincent tried to understand how Ganni let the condition reach this state. However, the story Ganni told was heartbreaking.

Alice had gotten sick all of a sudden two years ago, and it got bad about a year ago.

At first, it was mild, and it was quickly treated with a couple of herbs. However, Alice started getting sick for unknown reasons every week afterward. As the weeks passed, the days sick started to shorten until becoming three times a week.

A low-grade inspection gemstone costs a hefty price to purchase, so Ganni asked other vice-captains if they knew anyone who had one.

One vice-captain suggested finding a noble. He also mentioned a noble family about an hour’s walk from Ganni’s house.

As the money was evaporating like water in the hottest summer, buying one was impossible with the family’s funds running low. Ganni talked with his wife and decided to as the nearby noble family for sponsorship before his daughter’s condition worsens.

The Draghem family accepted Ganni’s plea. Instead of sponsorship, they accepted to let the family doctor examine his daughter and heal her for a small price of a few silvers.
